Our Staff

The physicians of the Silicon Valley Podiatry Group are committed to maintaining the highest level of qualifications possible: the physicians are all board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, and are all on the medical staff of Good Samaritan Hospital, as well as other local hospitals and surgery centers.
Dr. S. Chris Horine
Doctor Horine attended college at the University of California at Santa Barbara and San Jose State University studying pre-medical and engineering. He earned his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in 1969. When he completed his residency training at the California Podiatry Hospital, he opened his private practice in West San Jose in 1970. He began his partnership with Dr. Sharpe in 1977.
Doctor Horine has earned certification in the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Medicine, of which he has served as president from 1987 to 1989. He is recognized as a Fellow in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and in the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine.
Dr. Horine’s contributions to Podiatry were recognized when the California Podiatric Medical Association awarded him the “Podiatric Physician of the Year” in 1994. Dr. Horine is currently on staff at Good Samaritan and Los Gatos Community Hospital, as well as the local surgery centers.
Dr. David A. Sharpe
Dr. Sharpe attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1968. Following his undergraduate work he was admitted to the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Sharpe moved to San Francisco in 1972 where he served a two year surgical residency at the California College Of Podiatric Medicine and Pacific Coast Hospital. He also received his masters degree in Podiatric Surgical Education from the California College of Podiatric Medicine. In 1974, Dr. Sharpe moved to San Jose and started a practice in south San Jose. He formed a partnership with Dr. Horine in 1977, which exists today as the Silicon Valley Podiatry Group.
Dr. Sharpe is a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
Dr. Sharpe has served as an Assistant Professor of Podiatric Surgery at the California College of Podiatric Medicine. He is presently involved in the training of local podiatric surgical residents on a weekly basis.
Dr. Sharpe is currently on the Medical Staff of Good Samaritan Hospital and Community Hospital of Los Gatos. He also has served as president of the Santa Clara Podiatric Medical Society, and as chairman of the Department of Podiatric Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital, Mission Oaks Hospital, and Santa Teresa Hospital. His professional interests are reconstructive foot and ankle surgery and arthroscopic and endoscopic foot and ankle surgery. He also is involved in sports medicine treating many athletes of all levels.
Dr. Gerald D. Austin, Jr.
Dr. Austin has lived in the Bay Area since 1996 when he began his Graduate Education at the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco. He attended the University of Oregon. The coursework which would earn him a Bachelor of Science in Biology also fulfilled pre-med requirements and a minor in Spanish. While at the University of Oregon, Dr. Austin participated in Neuroscience Research contributing to a publication in the Journal of Developmental Biology. Research was also part of his Graduate Education, whilc studying melatonin administration in diabetic rats.
After earning his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine with honors, his Post-graduate education took him to Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Medical Center for one year of residency in primary podiatric medicine. The next two years of residency brought Dr. Austin back to the Bay Area where he completed his Podiatric Surgical Residency Training at Kaiser Santa Clara. Several specific aspects of surgical podiatry became of special interest, including working with children to correct club foot deformity, diabetic foot care, and foot and ankle trauma.
Prior to joining Silicon Valley Podiatry Group, Dr. Austin had the exciting opportunity to be a medical consultant and medical editor for a local publisher.
